Things to do with Going for Gold that could be classed as interesting.
Henry Kelly is one of the most respected radio presenters in these Isles.
He regularly pulled in 3+ million listeners on Britain's
Classic FM
and hosted a request show on Ireland's
Lyric FM.
Henry Kelly at LBC 97.3 FM
Joining the illustrious team of Sandi Toksvig, Penny Smith and, er, "D-List" Paul Ross, Henry Kelly can now be
heard in the Greater London area (and online bien sur). Find out more
here or email

Henry Kelly no longer at Classic FM
In June 2003, for reasons unknown, Athlone's most famous export was taken
off the air at Classic FM. Read more
here. Those out there suffering withdrawal symptoms may wish to check out "Henry Kelly's Drinking Classics" CD or his collection of hilarious anecdotes of the classical world.
His Critics
Not one to hide from controversy, Henry Kelly invokes strong opinions from those who listen to him. Here are some of the more outspoken comments over the years:
"Similar to Bailey’s Irish Cream, he’s one of Ireland’s best exports" - Tony Padman, Hampstead & Highgate Gazette, 2004
"So easy to listen to, he's an antidote to road rage" - Hilary Blumer, Radiotimes, 2002
"Should I mention that Henry Kelly, the game-show king and Pro-Celebrity golfer, spent the early years of his life in Athlone? That Athlone formed the man who made the dramatic transition from being an extremely serious journalist to being the presenter of Going for Gold ?, and who later quipped that Athlone was a one-horse town without the horse?
No.
Fuck Henry Kelly." -
Declan Lynch, "Ireland on Three Million Pounds a Day" 1995
